The launch reception of the highly prestigious Wales Media Awards 2016 will take place on Friday 16th October, in the Oriel Syncharth Gallery at Glyndwr University, Wrexham. These awards reward great journalism, recognising the very best examples of journalism with a Welsh angle, as well as the highest quality media content produced by journalists, photographers and camera operators based across the country. Nominations will remain open until 9 November 2015, with the winners unveiled on 4 March 2016, at a gala dinner hosted by one of Wales’ most eminent journalists, BBC News anchor, Huw Edwards.
The Wales Media Awards are the organised for the Journalists’ Charity in Wales, the leading charity for all journalists in need, helping them and their dependents with advice, grants and other forms of financial assistance. Founded by Charles Dickens more than 150 years ago, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the current patron of the charity.
Askar Sheibani, chair of the Deeside Business Forum and CEO and founder of Comtek, the headline sponsor for the Wales Media Awards 2016, has made the following comments:
“Comtek is thrilled to be sponsoring the highly regarded Wales Business Media Awards 2016, and I’m personally looking forward to helping celebrate the very best examples of journalism in Wales today. However, as well as showcasing the many talented people working within Welsh media, the awards also provide a fantastic platform from which to highlight the vital work undertaken by the Journalists' Charity.
“Journalists often face incredible risks just to bring their stories to your TVs, radios, newspapers, computers and phones, with an increasingly number unfortunately losing their lives, being injured or taken hostage. The Journalists’ Charity provides support to those affected by these terrible tragedies, and we’re delighted we can help play a part in raising its profile.”
